Kyra won a free throw competition sponsored by the Knight of Columbus in Barre on Saturday, March 18th. She won a big trophy. She competed against 4 girls in this state competition. She won first at St. Peter's Parish Hall, then at Mt. Abe and then finally at Barre!

She made 11 out of 25 shots, and then she tied with another girl. She went into the first tie-breaker. You get 5 extra shots. Kyra made 3 out of 5 and so did the other girl. Then she made 4 out 5 shots, and so did the other girl, and then she made 4 out 5 again, and the other girl made two out of five.  Congratulations Kyra!

News from VUES Student Council

Some of our amazing Student Council members.

There are 21 fifth and sixth graders in Student Council. Student Council is a group that meets once a week for a short meeting. We try to figure out positive things to do together for the school and community. We got to choose our jobs and responsibilities of what we are doing in the group. Some of the jobs are: photographer, minute taker, and timekeeper. This week, we talked about helping out at the VUES Talent show.  Some of us may  MC (which is to talk about what is next for people that are putting on a show). Lots of people are helping out at the Talent Show so it will be LOTS of fun to watch.

Reading together at VUES

National Geographic Bee

On January 10, 2017, the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades gathered to watch five students compete in the school round of the National Geographic Bee, a competition over knowledge of geography and culture. It was a very close competition, but in the end, Keaton came in first. He then went on to take a electronic quiz to determine if he would qualify for the state competition, and qualified. He will be going to Castleton State College on March 30. If he goes on to win that competition, he will go to Washington DC for the finals on May 15 - 17.  Good luck Keaton!
